Destroying other cultures in their infancy is unethical. Anyway, we can't be everywhere at once. Fortunately an alternative solution was devised.
Fissionable materials are vanishingly rare in nature. 5 billion years back we synthesized and detonated a big chunk, scattering it to the galaxies. Surely it's everywhere by now, in usably small quantities.
Eventually the younglings will blow themselves up. If they don't, if they survive, that's the culture we'd like to meet.
