The Waggle Dance
Nov. 30th, 2011 10:59 pmSpiky flew into the hive and landed awkwardly on four legs instead of six. Her middle pair of legs were holding her latest acquisition – a tiny LED light, laboriously nipped from a remote control operator. She dropped it off in front of Long Thorax, who was working as a courier on that shift.
"Run this up to Materials Management," she instructed, "and tell them to expect more where this came from."
"Ooh, a motherlode, huh?" asked Long Thorax, intrigued. "All right, I'll do it. By the way, Trembler wants a word with you."
"Ecch," said Spiky. Trembler was her brother, a drone. Drones never had anything useful to say. Spiky chose to ignore this tidbit of information and instead went to the Scavenger Floor. Fluffy-Head, Squinty and Eats-Everything were already there.
"Hey hey hey!" said Eats-Everything. "The mighty hunter returns. Whatcha got for us?" The bees gathered around Spiky. All the workers respected Spiky. She was a good finder and a good leader.
"Microelectronic components," said Spiky. "A pile of it."
Fluffy-Head nodded. "Show us," she said. Spiky began to dance.
