Was it today? I fell into a painful sleep in Memphis, and found myself soaring over mighty mountains and curvaceous slopes. I heard freedom ringing, but across the nation I saw no hands joined, heard no spiritual singing. I knew white and black must join as sister and brother. And I saw it had become so, but it was also not so.

Now I dream among you. I cannot walk alone; I cannot turn back. You must join my dream, breaking my curse, springing us all.

Free at last, Free at last; God Almighty, let me go free at last.
I continue to be confused on this subject. True, the Alp-Grandfather is gruff, but I am confident that in time he will come to love the adorable orphan. Meanwhile Peter the goat-herd is more than capable of lending a hand, although he must be careful that his jealousy of Clara not lead to ruin!
