It occurred to me, after reading the 100 Acre Wood stories again, that perhaps 'Trespassers W' isn't a part of a larger sign. It might, for instance, have been the start of a conventional warning, but upon reaching the W the limner was EATEN.

By a TIGER.

A very BOUNCY one.
He bought her the coveted combs for her beautiful tresses,
raising money by hocking his watch. She bought him the
fob chain he desired by selling her hair.

They fought, of course. She slashed his jugular with the
razor-sharp tines of the precious combs. Despite the slow blood
loss, he was still able to garrotte her with his
hard-won chain.

They found the lovers intertwined in a murderous embrace, stone
cold dead. The combs and chain were put into an
evidence locker, and I think they are both still there.

The Magi aren't very bright, but they make good television.
